Founded in 1989, Special Olympics Pakistan held its first National Games in Karachi, 1991 with 75 athletes.Today the Program has over 17000+ registered athletes.
To provide year,round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic, type sports for children and adults with an intellectual disability, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
For over 23 years, Special Olympics Pakistan has used sports to fight for the rights and abilities of people with intellectual disability. Through the common and simple vehicle of sports, Special Olympics has helped bring about attitudinal change in the way people with intellectual disability view themselves and are viewed and treated by others, replacing misunderstanding and fear with respect, acceptance and inclusion.
